The Abbotsford Airshow is built and succeeds with the support and participation of volunteers in all aspects of show production. Many friendships are built and memories made during the shared experience of presenting this event to the public. Thank You!
We invite all members of the community to apply for available positions. Age restrictions apply in certain areas.
Work Party Weekends!
The Abbotsford Airshow holds work parties Saturdays in July and August from 9am to 4pm. If you are interested in participating any time, contact the Airshow office by the Friday before you want to help out for more instructions. Lunch is offered for those who join us!
Hosting is one of the most important positions at the Airshow! You are representing the Abbotsford Airshow to each one of our patrons on a personal basis. A smiling face and friendly, helpful disposition are a must!
The main hosting areas: Runway Seating, Chalet Row, the Information/Lost and Found Kiosks and the Main Entrance Gates.
Hosting is also needed in our Volunteer Facilities. This crew offers help and a warm greeting to all our guests. FoodSafe certification and restaurant or hospitality experience are a plus.
Throughout the days of the Airshow food, beverages and other items need to be transported around the field. This crew reports to the Delivery Chair who will be signing items out from the storage areas. Mostly, this crew will work in pairs and also may require some lifting.
On-Field Operations (Airshow Setup and Take-Down)
In June, July and August, there are many preparations made to ready the Airport for the Airshow. This includes:
- general repairs
- grass cutting
- electrical preparations
Much of the preparation is done on WORK PARTY WEEKENDS
During the show, this crew is responsible for onfield maintenance and trouble-shooting. There are several divisions in this crew that report to various Chairs: Electrical, Grounds/Facilities, Plumbing and Signage.
Parking and Traffic Direction
The incoming patron traffic needs direction on where to park and which ticket line to go to. This crew works throughout the show: ushering traffic onsite in the morning and out in the afternoon. All volunteers for this crew should be 18 years of age or older.
This crew drives our patrons through the exhibition grounds on one of two specific routes. The circuits take approximately 45 minutes. This crew reports to the People-Mover Chair. All volunteers should have knowledge of tractor operation, be over 21 years of age and hold a valid BC Driver’s Licence.
The Abbotsford Airshow offers reserved seating at the front of the crowdline. Members of the Runway Seating crew sell tickets, check pre-paid tickets and usher patrons to their seats. On Thursday before the show and Monday following the show, this crew sets up the chairs and gates surrounding the Runway Seating area.
Patron Safety & Security
Patron Safety & Security onfield operates 24hrs alongside local police enforcement and military marshalling. Volunteers for this crew should be 21 years or older. Previous experience and licencing should be mentioned in your application.
This crew works primarily during the week before the show (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and the two days following the show (Monday, Tuesday). The crew transports vehicles to the field, signs vehicles out to visiting performers, checks over the vehicles at the end of the show and finally returns the vehicles to the borrowing site. This crew reports to the Transportation Chair. All volunteers must be 21 years or older. A valid BC Driver’s Licence and a Driver’s abstract are required.
